200th AGM of the Whitby Literary and Philosophical Society

The 200th annual general meeting of the Whitby Literary and Philosophical Society was held at 2pm on Sunday 25th of February 2024.

Society members voted in David Rodwell-Cox as the new chair of the society. Alison Roberts received a bouquet of flowers and thanks for her tenure as chair. Wendy Price stepped down from the role of secretary this year and Alison Roberts was voted in to the position. Current President Mark Edwards was voted in as president for a further three years. Rob Williams was voted into the role of Archivist within the library and archive.

Following the meeting the assembled members were given a presentation by Colin Pyrah OBE detailing some of the many heritage attractions he had been involved in creating during his professional career. The talk titled ‘A Journey in Time through Jorvik and Beyond’ covered a wide range of projects including ‘The Deep’ in Hull, ‘Titanic Belfast’ and, of course, ‘Jorvik Viking Centre’ In York.
