Shoe Exhibition

From Fancy Shoes to Fishermen’s Boots – 200 years of Whitby Footwear

Our latest exhibition in the costume gallery is a shoe exhibition, which looks at Whitby footwear and reflects different social status from the Georgian heel to boots and clogs worn by fisherfolk. Boot and shoemakers in the 19th century are compared to modern day, mass produced examples, purchased from further afield, after the opening of the railways.’

Some further information on the shoe exhibition can be found on the Special Events page.
