St. Hilda

Hild – St Hilda of Whitby

This exhibition takes the visitor through what we know of Hilda’s life, from birth to death. She lived in Northumbria in the 7th century AD and our information about her comes almost all from the Venerable Bede. The exhibition is illustrated with photographs of stained glass windows, mostly local, and with specially-commissioned artworks, and also contains objects uncovered in the archaeological investigations at Whitby in the 1920s.
