Have you been fascinated by the recent black hole photographs?
Do the latest discoveries provide us with any more clues as to the nature of dark matter?
There is still time to find out more about the search for dark matter in our current exhibition “Whitby and the Cosmos”. Marvel at ZEPLIN III our very own dark matter detector which was used at Boulby Underground Laboratory until 2011. Discover how our area provides the ideal environment for cutting edge experimentation.
But the connection between Whitby and the Cosmos goes much further back than this. Find out about Captain Cook’s voyage mapping the transit of Venus which allowed astronomers to chart the distance between planets for the first time.
Inspired to find out more? See how you can get involved in astronomy with Whitby Astronomical Society. The North York Moors and Yorkshire Coast are a designated dark skies area making it the ideal place to get started.
The exhibition runs until 20th July.
