Leave a legacy

Leaving a legacy is a very special, lasting way to enable the museum to continue and prosper for generations to come. You can make a Pecuniary Gift – a specific amount of money decided by you, or a Residuary Gift – a percentage of your estate after other legacies, inheritance tax and expenses have been paid. As they are based on a percentage rather than a specified amount, they tend to be inflation-proof and particularly beneficial. Legacies to the Whitby Literary and Philosophical Society are not liable for inheritance tax as the Society (whose function is to run the museum for the benefit of Whitby and its people) is a registered charity. If you would like to consider leaving a legacy, please contact for more information.
