Library & Archives Blog – Half Term Family Activities

The museum is open! Once you have discovered and enjoyed the fabulous new exhibitions in the museum then wander into the library for our half-term family activities.

We have a beautiful selection of very old children’s literature that will take parents back to their childhood and hopefully entrance the younger ones with magical fairy tales and daring adventures. Our collection includes Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll, Playhours and Half-Holidays by local author J.C.Atkinson and Verses for Children with delicate, soft illustrations.

During school visits, I run an orienteering activity, so I thought I would roll this out during the school holidays too. This involves wandering round the library discovering historical facts and resources we have available – interactive and engaging family fun!

Finally, have a look through our feedback from the Egton School visit. I set them the task of writing an Acrostic poem or a Haiku about their visit – in fact most did both! There are some amazing poems.

We are open from 10am to 4.30pm Tuesday to Friday. Come and explore; discover something new…
