Library & Archives Blog – Meet a volunteer…

Margaret has been volunteering for one year and was encouraged to join the team when she was carrying out research on St Ninian’s Church – of which she has vast knowledge! We have a huge St Ninian’s collection in our archives.

She was born in Lincolnshire, moved to West Yorkshire at seventeen and settled in the Whitby area over ten years ago. Margaret has a research and analytical background, which led to her growing interest in Genealogy and has been tracing her family roots since 1982. Her interest in St Ninian’s began when she was approached to trace the shareholders and has continued to be wholly involved in its maintenance and service. Between chasing family history and her continuous involvement of St Ninian’s she also enjoys gardening and knitting.

Margaret is one of two volunteers who are competent at using Find My Past, which we subscribe too. If you are interested in learning more about your family history, book in for a personal consultation contacting library@whitbymuseum.org.uk. The first half hour is free with a donation of £5 for subsequent half hours.
