The first priority of Whitby Literary and Philosophical Society is the health and well-being of our visitors, staff and volunteers.
In light of the latest government advice the trustees have taken the decision to close the museum until further notice with immediate effect. If the situation changes at any time we will issue further statements.
The trustees trust that you can understand the need for these measures and apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.
Our normal opening times are as below, these will be reinstated once the current crisis has ended.
Whitby Museum is open 9:30 am to 4:30 pm throughout the year except for Mondays and a break between Christmas and the New Year. The Library and Archive is open for more limited hours than the Museum and is closed throughout January.
Last admission to the Museum is half an hour before closing
For library opening times see Library Access
Persons wishing to closely inspect or research any particular collection should make an appointment in advance with the keeper or librarian.
As with all museums all displays are subject to change. If anyone is keen to view particular items they are advised to confirm with the keeper or librarian that the items are on display and will remain on display when they intend to visit. If the items are not on display then it will be necessary to make an appointment to view said items.
Please note that dogs (except for support dogs) are not allowed in the museum or the art gallery.
