There are many reasons to become a member of Whitby Lit and Phil – to have free admission to our collection as often as you like; to be able to borrow books from our Library as long as the books have not been categorised as for reference only; to enjoy our interesting lectures ; to have the opportunity to meet other like-minded people and the chance to help in the museum.
The first stage in becoming a member is to complete an application form which you can collect from the museum or print here. Our insurers require you to provide two referees. If you know two current members of the Lit and Phil, ask them to sign your form. You may be new to the area or from a different area altogether so do not know any members. In this case you may nominate two people who may be approached to provide a reference. These could be neighbours, work colleagues or other responsible person willing to confirm your good character. Once complete either post to the address provided or email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Your name will then be brought to the next monthly meeting of the trustees for their approval. Once this formality has been satisfied, our membership secretary will contact you to ask you to send your subscription. This is currently £25 for sole members and £35 for two members living at the same address. The easiest way to pay this is by annual subscription but you may prefer to pay by cash or cheque. Details of how to pay will be given once your membership is confirmed.
Once we have received your subscription, you will be sent your membership card and a copy of the latest report and welcomed to the society.
