You’ll Never Tame the Sea

Not only does our exhibition ‘John Tindale: A Vision of Whitby’ document the work, life and photography of John Tindale it also features three amazing films.

The main twenty minute film, ‘A Vision of Whitby’ is complemented by two shorter films; ‘You’ll Never Tame the Sea’ and ‘A Whitby Life’.

During the 1970s and 80s John Tindale recorded a series of interviews with Whitby characters who had a story to tell. These interviews have been combined together with historical film footage of life in Whitby and at sea, much of which has never been seen before. ‘You’ll Never Tame the Sea’ features interviews with such characters as; John ‘Woodpeg’ Storry; Reg James; Geordie Frampton; Rob Peart and Jim Leadley. Take a look at the trailer then call in to Whitby Museum to see the full length version playing every hour. We are open every day except Monday 10.30-4.30 with last admission at 4pm.
