A day celebrating our amazing Whitby Fossils, suitable for all ages.

Get hands on with fossils!

Get hands on with our our fossil handling collection and bring your fossils for identification with our Whitby Museum geology curators.

Join a tour of the museum geology collection and get a sneak peek behind the scenes at our stores!

Amazing dinosaur footprints will be joining us.

Get creative with James McKay – dinosaur drawing specialist.

The Geologists Association will also be visiting – find out about their group and what they do.

Book signing and talk from Matthew Myerscough author of ‘In Search of Sea Dragons’. Ticketed event due to limited space in our library. Tickets available from this link or via museum reception.

Dr Liam Herringshaw will be giving a closing talk after the event on the ‘Mystery of the Whitby Garlic Stones’ – tickets and details for the talk can be found via this link.

Normal admission applies, no booking necessary with the exception of talks, tickets may also be available on the day. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Want to find your own fossils?

If you want to find your own fossils, why not join a fossil hunting safari or a fossil foray?

‘Saltwick Bay to Whitby – In the Footsteps of Dinosaurs’  with The Rock Showman will be starting from ‘Natural Wonders’ on Grape Lane in Whitby at 9:30am – booking essential. Details and booking can be found via the Yorkshire Coast Rocks website.

Fossil Foray with Dr Liam Herringshaw and fabulous volunteers : The foray will take place on Tate Hill Sands and the East Scaur and suitable for all ages, though aimed at those over 6 years of age. The foray starts at 10am and finishes at Midday. All participants must hold a ticket for this event. Please see the Fossil Foray booking page for more details.

All funds raised from the foray will go to charity, Earth Science Outreach UK.
