Event information

Time: 11am -1pm

Cost: Normal Admission Applies

Type: Children's activity , Event

Help us celebrate VJ Day (Victory over Japan) and the end of World War II in 1945 by creating a make-believe tea party! Cut, stick, glue, colour and make pretend cakes, sandwiches, celebration flags  – help us party like it’s 1945!

Lots of families and friends gathered to have street parties to celebrate the end of the war creating their best cakes and treats. Rationing of food was still in operation so people did their best to make treats fit for a celebration. What do you think they would have eaten?

Our Medals and Militaria Curator, Julia, will be helping prepare the pretend feast. If you have any questions about Whitby in the war and VJ Day, Julia will do her best to find you the answers.

The event is a drop in between 11am and 1pm aimed at children of all ages and will be held in our library at Whitby Museum. Normal admission applies and children must be accompanied by an adult. Children can come and go from this activity and booking is not necessary.
