Library & Archives Blog – Digital Whitby Gazette

David Tindale, John Tindale’s son, generously arranged for the Whitby Gazettes, housed in the Archives, to be made available digitally to the Whitby community. This is available for public use in the Museum Library. Egton School pupils were amused when we found photographs of their relatives in the papers from their younger years!

The large touch screen gives access to the digital papers, currently, dating from 1900 to 1999. More are due to be added in the near future predating the 1900’s. Simple research can be achieved by using keywords in the search engine or by selecting particular newspapers. It has the ability to zoom in and out and scroll up and down, making for easy reading and navigating.

When visiting the Whitby Museum, call into the Library and lose yourself in local history whether searching for a person, building, street, news article etc. Easy to use and accessible for all.
