Families

The museum welcomes family groups and is a great place for your family to have fun together. There is something of interest for people of all ages in our extensive collections. Do ask about our family activity trails at Reception. Other specific family-orientated activities will be advertised from time to time.

Let our friendly mascot Clarence prepare you for your visit as he introduces you to the museum and it’s surroundings in our Visual Story..

CHILDREN (UNDER 18) ARE ADMITTED FREE OF CHARGE!

We are normally open Tuesdays to Sundays, 10.00–4.30, with last admission at 4.00. Tickets are valid for a full year.

There is no public parking available; however, there are four spaces available at the rear of the building for blue badge holders. Additionally, you are welcome to bring pushchairs, buggies etc. into the museum through our level access entrance at the rear of the building.

The museum has fully accessible toilets on all floors, one with baby changing facilities. There are lifts to all floors.

Nursing mothers are welcome, but if you require a quieter area, please ask at Reception.

Not only is the museum itself a treasure trove of interesting things, it is set in a large and beautiful park with a large fun play area.

Our tea room caters not only for families eating in but also provides takeaway services. We have special packs for children and cater for most dietary needs. There are picnic tables in the community area of the park or you can eat anywhere within the park grounds.

And finally, don’t forget to look out for Clarence our friendly Crocodile, who will point out some of our items of interest!
