Schools

Whitby Museum is a treasure trove of local artefacts, objects, documents, books, maps, photographs, and paintings with interest for all Key Stages. We are keen to make its resources available for educational purposes for investigative, observational, inspirational and research studies across the curriculum.

We welcome school parties of up to 40 pupils plus accompanying adults. To ensure the enjoyment of all our visitors we ask that you bring one adult for every eight children. Charges of £8.50 per head are made for the compulsory adults with all children and additional adults admitted free of charge.

Let our friendly mascot Clarence prepare you for your visit as he introduces you to the museum and it’s surroundings in our Visual Story.

Guidelines

Whitby Museum is keen to make its resources available for educational purposes. At certain times the Museum is heavily booked so please book well in advance. To book your visit please ring 01947 602908 or email enquiries@whitbymuseum.org.uk Bookings MUST be made in advance and followed up with a completed booking form.

We recommend that you visit the museum ahead of your class visit to familiarise yourself with the collection and layout. We are happy to arrange this free of charge but it must be booked in advance via the museum manager manager@whitbymuseum.org.uk

We recommend that you allow 1.5 hours for your visit. Please try to arrive at the time you have specified, if you are going to be late please let us know as a late arrival may mean shortening your visit. We accept visits which start between 10am and 3pm.

When moving around the museum please do so in small groups of eight children with accompanying adult. This is to ensure the enjoyment of all museum visitors. Please pay particular care in the shop and toilets.

We are currently revising our educational resources and more details about them will appear here once they are complete.

To help in the planning of your visit and your own risk assessments please see our General, and Health & Safety Information and Guidance for Group Visits
